Wireless communication enables the exploration and exploitation of underwater resources.
Digital underwater communication is an important technology for a number of subsea activities and applications. An increasing number of underwater applications like environment monitoring, exploration and defence depend on reliable transfer of real-time or stored data. Wireless communication is often the best option for subsea systems and has a number of advantages:
- Flexible deployment independent of existing infrastructure
- Enables mobility and autonomous vehicles
- Distributed sensor networks
- Ad-hoc network connectivity possible
CMR has competence in R&D within underwater data harvesting using the Sailbouy as a wireless communication relay for seafloor sensors. The system performance is enhanced by the introduction of advanced communication technologies like OFDM, MIMO and adaptive modulation.
